Inspirations - Chipping Away...

I kept seeing ads on TV for Educating Essex - a documentary about a secondary school in Essex. The Inclusions/Deputy teacher was so persistent and caring (in his own dry, stubborn way) that he made me want to become a teacher... just a little.

Some quotes I grabbed whilst watching on 4OD which I love are:

"For the community we serve, they have a lot of inconsistencies in their lives... change is stressful, inconsistency is stressful"

"If you choose to be very intent on these things (attendance), in order to allow the young people to have the best opportunities they can, then you have to accept that things are going to be fairly relentless."
Mr Drew, Educating Essex Series 1 Episode 1

"I think sometimes, we forget what it's like to be young. We forget that they are children, they are not adults...one of the reasons I like teenagers is because they don't always do what you want them to do and they don't always do things you think are sensible. You cannot expect young people to behave how we expect ourselves to behave as adults; otherwise you may as well just make them adults at 11 and have done with it."
